I have been tinkering with this brew for a while now, it´s meant to have a chance against both control and aggro. We have cheap early game creatures to help us against aggro, Phyrexian Arena help us against control and adds devotion for gary.
Don’t be afraid of going aggro yourself, this deck has that possibility sometimes with our early game creatures and finishing of with gary. We are a control deck, just a flexible one.
For removal we run Vraka’s Contempt and Murderous Rider, four of each for our catch all removal as there is a lot of planeswalkers in the format. We also have two copies of Eliminate to help us against early treats. You can also consider Grasp fo Darkness over Eliminate, but there is very few cases where Grasp is better, mainly against Questing Best and Krenko
Karn helps us win against combo and goblins decks, Grafdigger’s cage makes it so Muxus and Snoop have no effect, is also good against cat and Uro decks. Karn also nullifies the Kethis deck as it doesn’t allow them to generate mana with Mox Amber.
The deck we strugle against the most is MonoRed Burn, as they don’t run that many creatures, killing us with direct damage. If you face that deck a lot, changing a Phyrexian Arena or a Karn for a Tendrils of Corruption might help you.
There is some cool stuff you can do with the sideboard, treat it as an extension of the deck, change it from time to time depending on what kind of decks you are facing.
