First of all, Happy New Year all!
This is the list that carry me to mythic this season, Abzan Clerics. Everybody knows the power of clerics decks (Esper and Orzhov are more popular) but few knows the reason for play green in this archetype. The answer for this is Trelasarra, Moon Dancer
, another Cleric who obtain +1/+1 every time we gain life and scry 1, very important for put in the bottom of the library the lands I don't need draw. The other green card I play in this list is Realmwalker
great card and nice synergy with Trelasarra, Moon Dancer and the cards they allow to gain life when a creature card enters in the battlefield Lunarch Veteran // Luminous Phantom
, Cleric of Life's Bond
, Righteous Valkyrie
. I play 3 Pyre of Heroes
for more value and can tutor the cleric I need in every match. Other singular inclusion in this list is Angel of Destiny
, the only 5 mana cost in the deck. I test other clerics in this slot like Drana, the Last Bloodchief
or Firja, Judge of Valor
but I prefer Angel of Destiny because it can block the dragons and flip a really worst match against this archetype. I like play some five mana cost for more value using Pyre of Heroes in four mana cost like Orah, Skyclave Hierophant
and return a cleric from the graveyard or Inquisitor Captain
. The other Archemy card that surprise me is Sigardian Evangel
nice card in rush face matches and a nice top deck in long match, can play more than one 3/1 in the battlefield, tap some enemy creature and in the end of the turn put one copy in the graveyard is always a good option for return in the future.
Now, is the moment to talk about sideboard:
vs Aggro (general)
Is a good main deck against aggro, I put 2x Vanishing Verse
and some Crippling Fear
. Out Angel of Destiny and Elite Spellbinder
.
vs Control (general)
Put in 4 discards Duress
and Go Blank
, Elite Spellbinder, 2x Silverquill Silencer
and 2x Sorin the Mirthless
that is the secret card that control don't expect in cleric's list. Out Angel of Destiny, some cost 2 like Sigardian Evangel, one copy of Trelasarra, Moon Dancer, some Voice of the Blessed
. 2x Inquisitor Captain and some Righteous Valkyrie.
vs Mirror (clerics)
In 2x Vanishing Verse and The Meathook Massacre
. Out Elite Spellbinder and Angel of Destiny.
vs Dragons
In my opinion the worst matchup for this deck. The turn 3 Town-Razer Tyrant
it's really hard to answer. I like kept Angel of Destiny in and 2x Vanishing Verse. Usually out Elite Spellbinder.
Draugr Necromancer
is for the match against sacrifice deck or some mirror with Pyre of Heroes in the enemy list.
I'm thinking to change some sideboard slot for try to improve the match against dragons postsideboard, for example some Angel of Unity
for some area removal slot.
I'm keeping working in this list next year.
