More Eldrazi coming to MTG Arena

More Eldrazi coming to MTG Arena

We’ve all seen the juicy announcement last Weekly MTG’s Monthly Announcement Day stream, which was followed up by WoTC’s official Arena Cube Draft announcement. Yes, finally, after quite a long while, more Eldrazi is coming to MTG Arena. In particular, our venerable Thought-Knot Seer is going to lead the march this coming Explorer Anthology 2.

To recap, Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger is so far the only Eldrazi card available in MTG Arena. Sure, it's somewhat nice that it exists. But in a vacuum, it doesn’t really whet the appetite of Eldrazi lovers at all, knowing that an entire legion of them already exists in paper Magic.

Thought-Knot Seer was originally from Oath of the Gatewatch, which is like, three release sets ahead of the last remastered set, Kaladesh. And as everybody remembers, it’s been more than two years since that last remastered release. We have yet to hear even a sliver of news about Shadows Over Innistrad and Battle for Zendikar (chronologically the two next after Kaladesh). So it is understandable that players are quite excited that a new Eldrazi will finally make its way to MTG Arena, possibly only the first of many to come.

Indeed, the fact that Thought-Knot Seer will soon be available means that the “plane” is more than likely already open for even more Eldrazi to slip through the digital rift. After all, Oath of the Gatewatch was only the second in introducing more Eldrazi cards for the game. We most likely won't see the classic ones like Kozilek, Butcher of Truthimage or Emrakul, the Aeons Tornimage yet, but a multitude of others starting from Battle of Zendikar would most likely finally allow an entire tribal build to thrive in MTG Arena.

Supporting this idea further is Wastes, which will be freely given to all MTG Arena players as Explorer Anthology 2 releases. What better way to justify the mere existence of this basic land than to be used for all types of Eldrazi shenanigans in the near future?

In any case, the Arena Cube event will follow the release of Explorer Anthology 2 as well. So it starts on December 13th, and ends next year January 1st 2023. For those unfamiliar, the event will be similar to a Draft, in that you open packs and pass them around. But, you're given exclusive boosters with contents carefully selected from the present and upcoming MTG Arena card pool. The official card list is available here.

BO1 structure is 7 wins / 3 losses, while BO3 structure is three matches. Top winners in both categories (7 wins BO1 or 3 wins BO3) will net 6,000 gold plus two rare and one uncommon Historic ICRs. Even if not first place, each game won will also contribute to an overall prize package, as well as basic participation rewards for non-winning players.

Entry will require either 4,000 Gold or 600 gems. Oh, and the drafted cards will not be added to your collection.
