The mainboard is simply a strictly red strategy without chainwhirler. So what does white add to red? Since the ban of ramunap path of mettle gives you some value and reach in the late game when you are out of gas, sometimes also a control over the board when it flips. Also unlocking white the sideboard has more answer than a monored has to mirror matches and aggro in general plus i wanted to add a spicy direfleet daredevil, who still triggers the path even if you don't have targets from your opponent.
Still even if black is the better splash for red if you want to play something different this is worth to try.
