Deck Goal:
To feint the opponent by making a board that looks non-intimidating while simultaneously creating treasure tokens, then alpha striking with Gold Rush. The secondary wincon is a value based combo involving Roxanne/Magda, Jolene a very inefficient tertiary way to pressure the opponent and close out games.
Deck Strategy:
The ideal hand for this deck is 2-3 lands, a plunderer (or even two), Magda, Roxanne, and Torch the Tower. This isn't a deck that is going to control the board through removal, but instead is trying to make a boardstate that allows us to win with sometimes only a single creature.
Torch the tower is enough for most early threats, and Plunderer is a non-essential component of the deck (big score mythic tax hurts) but extremely enabling, in more ways than one. If you can flex it, they're amazing turn 2 play, as it let's you get basically a free 2 damage due to the menace, and Gold Rush/ Torch can make some incredible turn 3 plays if they're able to double block. If the plunderer sticks more than 2 turns it's become mana positive for you, and it enables a turn 4 Roxanne, and if she sticks then things really go crazy, due to her doubling treasure/meteorite mana. If you can achieve this boardstate, the ideal is to use Gold Rush on a Hydra, but depending on your draws (you'll want to draw into GR, it's not great in the starting hand) you'll probably have to use it on Roxanne or a Jolene, whatever creature ends up not blocked when you attack.
Besides that main core strategy, there are some included elements that don't necessarily create or interact with treasure, but instead enable the deck in other ways, mainly in Enduring Courage for the haste and buff, which is incredible for this deck. Royal Treatment to give protection during critical plays (it's important to make sure to keep mana up for this, even though a 5/5 hydra might be tempting), and Furnace Reins to provide an avenue to attack our opponents that they aren't expecting, the treasure token being gravy. Usually makes the Atraxa Domain Ramp decks ragescoop, especially when you Gold Rush it. Caught in the crossfire is an excellent option for this deck as a way to deal with monored and rabbits/token spam, as most of our creatures are outlaws, while it's not great damage it can most definitely catch opponents by surprise thanks to it's Instant speed.
Deck Optimization:
There are a few cards that one might want to include or swap out, depending on particular metas. Crossfire is probably the easiest spell to exchange with something else.
You might find the land count too low for arena, but if the deck works how it's intended, then it becomes a non-issue. But there's nothing wrong with a 61 or 63 card special.
Playing Tips:
Priority for protection is this: Roxanne>Plunderer>anything else. Plunderer by itself can counter Simulacrum decks if left to it's devices, and Roxanne doubles mana, both are incredibly powerful for this deck. Everything else has about equal priority and should be viewed situationally, does letting the hydra die set you up for a win, for instance?
Plunder & Magda will actually net you two treasures on upkeep as the plunderers ability counts as a crime.
If you want to add land, I suggest getting the desert that allows you to stop a creature from blocking, Sandstorm Verge iirc. You'll have mana to spare on a good hand, so making sure their sheoldred/nemesis/atraxa can't block might mean the difference between a win and a loss.
Because combat is getting a rules change in the next few days, Gold Rush becomes less useful as a way to alpha strike and win through element of surprise. In a post-Foundations environment, make sure to keep up Royal Treatment mana in response since you'll have to cast it main phase. Otherwise, it's important to wait or lull them into a tapped out boardstate.
Thank you for looking at my deck, I hope you enjoy this deck as much as I do!
