This deck was inspired by me watching a bunch of Rumpley MTG's video's. He recently played the 6 mana Chandra and it happened to be one of the cards I opened a few of so far. So I thought maybe I could combo with some other cards I like. The four major threats in this deck are:
My thought behind this deck was lets do a fun mid-range burn mono-red with some nice payoffs. I love the Khenra Spellspear // Gitaxian Spellstalker for a payoff. Then a bunch of quick burn spells that the Solphim can double and Chandra can copy. The fact that you can also make Solphim indestructible is so nice.
One of the thing though that I think needs to be called out is that you need to invest in flipping Khenra Spellspear // Gitaxian Spellstalker on turn 3. The ward 2 helps keep it alive and the double prowress, trample means that it makes up for the turn it cost you quickly. It only hurts if they have a way of making you sacrifice it. So watch out for the black players. However the flip has won for me, more than lost.
Play with Fire - nice to look for the land, burn face, or clean the early threats
Lightning Strike - nice cheap heavy hitter that can go face, or creature.
Brotherhood's End - only own one, in here to sweep artifacts or small creatures - tip: Flipped Spellspear survives this because of the double prowress.
Call In a Professional - poor mans Lightning blast, can go face and will stop life gain if needed.
Explosive Singularity - end game haymaker, with Solphim, Mayhem Dominus out on the battlefield, it is capable of dealing 20 points in a single hit.
Kessig Flamebreather - Squeak out the extra damage to face (can be doubled with Solphim) and provides 3 toughness blockers early.
Bloodfeather Phoenix - Small over the top hitter that can return to the battlefield bigger from the graveyard when burning face.
Bloodthirsty Adversary - Hasty 2/2 that can return you some much needed burn delight.
Khenra Spellspear // Gitaxian Spellstalker - The varsity captian that goes over the top and MVP the game.
Urabrask // The Great Work - He is a 4/4 that burns face on instant/sorcery casts, and flips to a saga (plus I opened him recently)
Solphim, Mayhem Dominus - The King, the doubler, the ultimate prize possesion in this game.
Visions of Phyrexia - this can just start churning you some value.
Reckless Impulse - help look for that land and trigger, Kessig Flamebreather, Khenra Spellspear // Gitaxian Spellstalker, Urabrask // The Great Work, and Chandra, Hope's Beacon
Chandra, Dressed to Kill - face burn, card advantage, and mana ramp, "isn't she lovely!"
Koth, Fire of Resistance - ramp and removal, and eventually if unanswered burn baby burn!
Chandra, Hope's Beacon - copies the instances and sorceries, ramp, removal with face, and card advantage.
The downside is that I chose to go with 22 lands because the Chandra, Koth, Reckless Impulse, Visions, can get you to where you need. It does mean that sometimes you will have a draw that only has 2 mana. I have to say I have won several of those however, that power of the Spellspear and cheap burns. Then when the land finally came, oh baby! However, on the time I did not it does suck!
