Control
This is the Deck I used to get to Mythic in the July 31st - 10th Season. Special shout out to @Hellogoodgame for the Assists and the great Discord he has! Check his youtube out if you ever need help!
This deck design is control based. Usually you find your self just Digging for Blood on the Snow
While using the Learn mechanic on Eyetwitch
and Hunt for Specimens
for Environmental Sciences
in the early Game, even if you have extra land, the life gain from sciences can help survive against a lot of Aggro Decks.
The Deck has a draw engine in Plumb the Forbidden
, Deadly Dispute
, Skullport Merchant
and Lolth, Spider Queen
. You also have a kind of draw engine with Tibalt, Cosmic Impostor
when you use his +2 to exile the top card from your, and your opponent's decks.
It also has a sneaky Aggro option in Zariel, Archduke of Avernus
when combined with Mascot Exhibition
that can give you an explosive win.
Also having Sedgemoor Witch
helps with maintaining a defensive board state and much needed life gain from all the pest tokens.
Bloodchief's Thirst
is mainly used for spot removal of either annoying creatures or planeswalkers. And Necrotic Fumes
helps remove unkillable threats like Koma, Cosmos Serpent
, Kaya, The Inexorable or Toski, Bearer of Secrets
. You can also use Tibalt for the same job as the Fumes.
The deck has variable stratigies based on each of the "Top" meta decks in Standard 2022. Usually its about knowing what their key cards are and trying to kill or remove those. Or just relying on the Blood on the Snow to get everything dead in the case of Aggro like Mono White or Goblins.
Difficult match ups can be The Green Black deck that uses Skeletal Swarming
since there is no removal in the deck for the enchantment. Mono Green with its Ranger Class
can be especially tough if you can't get into your Blood on the snow and keep your board protected. Also Izzet Dragons is especially anoying with its counter spells and Goldspan Dragon
into Alrund's Epiphany
.
