I've been trying to build a Stormwing Entity deck, that isn't the same ol' same ol' red and blue pile of cards that you really don't even want to draw if you don't have Stormwing Entity on the field or at least in your hand.
In order to mitigate dead draws and add extra gas we are going to use the adventure mechanic.
We start the game by dropping guilded goose (which allows us a turn two Stormwing Entity, brazen borrower, and lovestruck Beast), edgewall innkeeper (a must answer card for our opponent unless they want to be buried in card advantage), or playing hearts desire. We never really want to cast unsummon on turn one. Also important to note, we almost always play hearts desire over edgewall innkeeper because it feels a whole lot better to lose a 1/1 token to removal than it does to lose our innkeeper. The only exception would be if we have a Stormwing in hand that we want to play on turn three by playing hearts desire first, and we aren't feeling pressure from our opponent.
Our turn two play always depends on the type of deck our opponent is using and what we did on turn one. If we are playing against an aggressive deck we will drop fae of wishes in a heartbeat to put a 1/4 flyer in between our opponent and us, especially if we have an innkeeper on the field as it we'll get to draw a card as well. Against aggro we also don't mind playing lovestruck beast if we played guilded goose on turn one just to get a body out there. The ideal turn two combo for this deck is, having played guilded goose on turn one, we cast hearts desire, or unsummon (on our own creature of need be), then follow up with a stormwing entity. We also have jolrael (because our innkeeper keeps us drawing) and scavenging ooze (so we can hate our opponents graveyard (I'm looking at you cycle, uro, lurrus, and demonic embrace)). Absent these plays we should draw, pass the turn and use brazen borrower or unsummon to bounce our opponents game plan.
By turn three, our pieces should be falling into place. Absent the turn one guilded goose, this is the turn where we are wanting to play lovestruck beast or stormwing entity. If we have an innkeeper on the field the play is lovestruck beast or brazen borrower over Stormwing because we would rather draw one than scry two. One of our favorite thing about a turn three lovestruck beast is that it sets up a turn four Great Henge play, which I can't stress enough, will win you the game 9/10 times. The Great Henge is THE most powerful artifact in standard... "but what about embercleave Billy?" Well does embercleave draw cards, gain life, and pump all your creatures? No? Alrighty then, moving on... Absent these plays we'll be bouncing our opponents stuff.
Outside of the main game plan, since we run fae of wishes, our wishboard consist of the most powerful planeswalkers in standard and counterspells for that control deck matchup.
