This specific deck was made upon request to see my vision of a standard playable (at least for a few more weeks) classic recursion style deck using fiend artisan, cavalier of night, and cauldron of eternity as mainstays.
Personally I have been trying to get fiend artisan to work in a high level competitive build, and I feel like I'm close, so I'm excited to see what the upcoming set gives us card-wise to potentially tie it all together. The biggest issue with the card is it can be a bit slow considering it's weak to literally every playable peice of removal, but if it's allowed to stick around for a turn or two it can get nasty, and it at least works very well as a permanent that your opponent must use removal on.
Cavalier of night is a cool card, that unfortunately never really got unlocked in its time in standard, not that is wasn't played, but compared to all the other cavaliers from core20, it is the least played in my opinion. It does have really nice synergy in this deck as it's only real removal and as a way to pull lurrus, archfiend vessel, and fiend artisan back from the graveyard to the battlefield.
Archfiend because we love the pressure it can apply if we recur it as a 5/5 flying demon. Gutterbones as a great early target for demonic embrace, and to make sure we have a card to discard over and over again to rotting regisaur if need be. Aside from fiend artisan, our 2 drops are designed to mill ourselves, and with all of the recursion we have, milling ourselves may as well be drawing cards. Binding of the titans we find especially neat as a permanent that can be cast from the graveyard multiple times by lurrus. The same can be said of glowspore shaman, except it leaves a 3/1 body on the battlefield that is a great target for demonic embrace. Rotting Regisaur gives us a huge beatstick body early, that along with being a stud with demonic embrace, allows us to cast the great henge on turn 4, which should close out games in short order. Did I mention that cavalier of night can bring big Reggie back to the battlefield? Did I mention he can bring lurrus back too? Well it certainly does.
To be completely candid, I would personally cut cauldron of eternity altogether as it can be clunky and we already have several, much cheaper, ways to get pieces out of our yard. Specifically, I'd rather run two pieces of early removal instead case I needed to be more reactive against my opponent if I was on the draw, or I could also see myself running two more glowspore shamens to make sure we are filling the graveyard.
I do think the deck would be WAY more competitive if scavenging ooze, along with all the other gobs of graveyard hate being played right now, werent in so many main decks. MaRo hasn't given recursion players a way to protect their own yards without nonbowing themselves in the process.
