Historic Brawl - Simic Serpents

Combo Jank

I'm finally back with a new deck, after quite a long break from Arena and MTG in general. So, I thought that it would be fitting to have a jank/control Simic deck for the historic brawl event that is on at the moment. I love Arcane Adaptation as a card, I've used it in a few decks that never made it to Aetherhub (Demon tribal was too janky even for me). It's not a necessary card in the deck and from the games I've played I've never even cast it.

But! There is some warped logic behind it. I love disrupting play, so when I thought of Simic and aspects of control I of course (not at all) thought of Slinn Voda. For some time I loved the idea of making a sea themed deck, but let's be honest, it would be a bad meme. So, why not turn everything into a serpent and return everything else and win the game that way.

Spoilers: I never won the game that way.

The deck is fun, denying the commander and ramping. Plenty of card draw to find more counters or lands. If you can get to Koma it can be very hard to deal with, the tapping down threat and the indestructible options can outright pressure opponents into just conceding especially if they are relying on counters to answer most commanders.

There are a few questionable cards (even though its more of a questionable deck), even though I've already mentioned it Arcane Adaptation, I wanted the deck to be fun and quite a meme for my return back to MTG after a few months away. But it does synergize with the commander and Slinn Voda. Finding it isn't that hard either with Narset and all the scry and card draw in the deck. Narset, is one of the questionable things as well. Since I went for a control-ish build, I thought it natural to include her. Jace as well is a bit odd, I love the ultimate so much that I made room for him, the scry and bounce are nice as well. Nissa, Steward of Elements is a card I've tried in a few decks and never really found much of a home for in my style of play. But the scry and a potentially a free creature or land was something I thought might be a nice fit. It also gives Nyxbloom Ancient more to synergize with in the deck, I haven't included many X spells in the deck. Plus it would be funny to see how much loyalty you can get. Agent as well feels a little bit too forced and I hate playing it because it's such an anti-fun card, but I didn't abuse the endless loop with Thassa.

If you want to swap them out, I would suggest just putting more land into the deck, it can be awkward occasionally being stuck on 5/6 land waiting to get to 7 to cast Koma. Maybe adding an Explore can help too. I guess it would need more mana and ramp than anything else. Of course, you could also add more creatures that synergize with Voda.

TL:DR It's a fun deck but not particularly competitive, if you want a meme deck that can actually win a few games than I guess this is something for you. But don't waste wildcards on it ><.
