Featured Deck: Jhoira's Outcome (Mostly mono U Storm)Format: Standard
Last Updated: 25 Aug 2018
The idea of this deck is using Aetherflux Reservoir to deal 50 damage to your opponent by using low cmc artifacts, recalling them with either Paradoxical Outcome or Baral's Expertise and recasting them to up your life via Aetherflux Reservoir's lifegaining ability.
Sai, Master Thopterist generates extra 1/1 flyers that can be used in conjuction with Inspiring Statuary to generate mana via Improvise, as well as make chump blockers or, rarely, to attack outright.
Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain kicks the combo into high gear, virtually ensuring that you will never run out of cards since every time you cast an artifact or another legendary, you'll draw a card. This will turn virtually all your cards into cantrips. Since Jhoira represents the only red card we need, you can easily get a red mana via renegade map (fetching the mountain), drawing the mountain outright, drawing one of our 2 Sulfur Falls, turning an island into a mountain via Navagator's Compass, or generating a red mana via Prophetic Prism.
Whir of Invention is a sneaky way to sneak in part of your combo or to fasciliate the combo. It has Improvise onboard (no need for Inspiring Statuary) to allow you to fetch and slam an artifact on board at instant speed.
I tend to use Paradoxical Outcome as a way to not only draw cards, but to protect my permanents. Often an opponent will try to destroy an artifact or a creature (more likely in this creature heavy meta), so snapping them all up and drawing a handful of cards can be backbreaking to your opponent who is trying to chip away.
Inspiring Statuary is a major step at getting your storm up and running. Most opponents will ignore this and instead focus on stopping the Reservoir, Sai, or Jhoira. But more often than not, allowing you to keep the Statuary on board is a huge mistake. Especially when Sai has just generated a handful of thopters that you can not use to cast things via Improvise.
Hold onto your 0 cmc cards until you get value via Sai/Jhoira.
Attacking isn't reccomended, as it puts your creatures at risk of a Settle the Wreckage or other attacking control spells.
Don't forget to tap your artifacts for Improvise if you are casting a spell that will remove them from the board.
Your lands are valueable, always tap them last. Prioritize improvise.
Remember you can chain Mox Amber. Tap it for U if you have Sai, or U/R if you have Jhoira out, then cast your second and sac the tapped Amber. Do this if you return it to your hand as well.
