Good morrow Magic Malcontents! One of the more recent developments in the MTG meta has been the introduction of the "Superfriends" concept. Basically, you take a bunch of planeswalkers and craft a deck around them while exploiting their powers to your advantage. You can do this for just about any deck that you can think of, in fact, so many decks now run planeswalkers that it is difficult to escape them and rare to find a deck that does not run planeswalkers. The recent SCG Open saw four Superfriends decks in the top 16, 25%! The most common one was a Jeskai Superfriends deck. I decided to give the winning deck a whirl and found that there was not enough control for me. So I experimented, tweaked (figuratively and literally), and tweaked some more (again, figuratively and literally) and came up with this Jeskai Dictatorship deck. Enjoy!
DECK: [[Opt]] for early card draw, [[Shock]] for early removal, [[Spell Pierce]] for early counters against the plethora of RDW decks, and [[Lightning Strike]] for bigger beefier burn. [[Dovin's Veto]] also gives us options against quicker decks, but this may be more of a sideboard card as I feel I am running too many situational counters. [[Absorb]] takes care of just about everything else. [[Deafening Clarion]] takes care of a majority of our opponent's creatures. [[Shalai, Voice of Plenty]] gives us an added bonus of giving us hexproof and a flying creature. [[Saheeli, Sublime Artificer]] gives us chump blockers and attackers if need be, [[Narset, Parter of Veils]] gives us some filtering and shuts down draw engines, and [[Teferi, Time Raveler]] likewise shuts down counterspells and burn on our turn as well as giving us a bounce mechanic. [[Sarkhan, the Masterless]] turns our planeswalkers into dragons and can churn out dragon tokens while [[Teferi, Hero of Dominaria]] adds a wincon to our already stout roster of planeswalkers. Land-wise, I put in [[Mobilized District]] for situational attacks, [[Interplanar Beacon]] is a no-brainer, and [[Karn's Bastion]] helps us replenish low planeswalkers. Sideboard gives us flexibility: [[Legion Warboss]] for added creature firepower, [[Lava Coil]] for stout removal, [[Prison Realm]] for banishment, and [[Ixalan's Binding]] for superduper banishment! I have swapped out Veto for the Binding, so the Binding might actually be mainboard potential if it were not for its high costs.
ADVANTAGES: 1) super flexible and fun deck to play 2) unlike some of the other Superfriends decks I have seen, this one gives us added control with countermagic and 3) the whole concept of planeswalkers turning into dragons is just beastly...
DISADVANTAGES: 1) this is mainly a Bo3 deck 2) it takes a lot of practice and timing to make this deck successful, you need at least one counter/early burn in your hand along with two shock lands of all three color combinations to make it work, and 3) with all the planeswalkers on the board, it is easy to forget to activate their abilities to their fullest extent.
Overall, this is a fun deck to play and a fun concept to play around with. I have to disagree with Noxious's Tweet that Standard is boring: I feel the meta has never been so diverse and fun to play and decks like this one prove that.
