Deck Summary
The purpose of this deck is to get your creatures down on the board and then cast as many instants and sorceries as you can to build the the strength of your board. Go for a swing with five 5/5 trample creatures... at the least, bigger numbers are on the table.
Turn 1 you'll want to consider Monastery Swiftspear
or a reaction burn spell (Lightning Bolt
or Lava Dart
)
Turn 2 you want to get down one of your two drop creatures, preferrably a token generator (Young Pyromancer
or Clarion Spirit
) over the anthem creature (Leonin Lightscribe
)
Turn 3 you want to get down another 2 drop, also consider getting some damage through to get a Light Up the Stage
cast so you have more cards next turn
Turn 4 you want to combo. Figure out if it makes sense to get another creature down or not before attacking. Then consider how to sequence given the board state and go in for a combo attack. Strong cards on this turn are Leonin Lightscribe, Crash Through
, Burst of Speed
and Show of Confidence
. Make sure to cast Burst of Speed right before attackers are declared to maximize tokens available for attacking. Show of Confidence after a Crash Through and another spell with Leonin Light Scribe on the board likely means you win.
Lurrus of the Dream Den is available for long drawn out matchups.
When it comes to sequencing you'll want to try hide your Leonin Lightscribe for as long as possible, in matchups with hand hate it might be preferrable to look for opening hands that don't include your anthem creature. If you ever find yourself with two in hand, then turn three is a perfect time to drop 1 of the two Leonins onto the field, either it will draw a removal spell, or on turn 4 you get to double anthem.
The sideboard has maybe one unique attribute, which is The Flame of Keld
that can be combined with Lurrus to cast card draw from the graveyard. This would only be for the most grindiest of matchups. There's also an extra Light Up the Stage in the sideboard. Otherwise the sideboard is just 4 sets of 3 cards towards the following functions:
- Hate a creature
- Hate the graveyard
- Hate the shinies
- Sunscreen for burn
