Description

Good morrow Magic Mulligan Lovers! Been a while since I have done a write-up, lots going on at school and at the home front so time to get decks built, tested, and uploaded are few and far between. So Grixis has always been a thing for me and I experimented quite a bit when WAR first came out with the new Nicky B planeswalker as a centerpiece. This deck is inspired by Mogwai's recent Grixis control build, only I added [[Sarkhan, the Masterless]] to the deck to give it all the more punch/finishing capabilities.

DECK THIS OUT! [[Search for Azcanta]] helps with filtering draws and generating advantage, [[Lava Coil]] gives us nice spot removal, and [[Thought Erasure]] gives us hand disruption. [[Bedevil]] gives us more flexible removal, [[Thief of Sanity]] gives us access to our opponent's deck, while [[Narset, Parter of Veils]] shuts down their draw engine and filters our own draws. [[Saheeli, Sublime Artificer]] gives us chump blockers that can turn into stuff later on which is important in a creature-light deck. [[Cry of the Carnarium]] is a one off against weenie builds but with sideboard options. [[Nicol Bolas, the Ravager]] is a big boy flyer with bigger plans, [[Ritual of Soot]] pretty much wrecks Mono R and W and U builds while [[Enter the God-Eternals]] as a one-off gives us a zombie army and mill. [[Sarkhan, the Masterless]] turns our planeswalkers into dragons, [[Nicol Bolas, Dragon-God]] is great to have (understatement), while [[Liliana, Dreadhorde General]] gives us tokens and forces opponents to sacrifice creatures and permanents while also giving us a nice draw engine. Our sideboard has more copies of Lava Coil and Carnarium but we also throw in [[Negate]] for early aggro counters, [[Sinister Sabotage]] for the same reason, and [[Legion Warboss]] to parry threats against weenie or aggro builds. [[Ugin, the Ineffable]] can function like a draw filter along with removal.

ADVANTAGES: 1) This is deck has the hallmarks of a control deck with several (not just one or two) knockout blows 2) there is such a good mix of spot and mass removal that this deck can hose about any aggro build and 3) Sarkhan turning planeswalkers into dragons is a beautiful thing.

DISADVANTAGES: 1) Like any control build, we have to withstand barrage after barrage against Mono R in order to be successful 2) With the land base being as funky as it is, getting the draws down on this deck takes practice practice practice, it is not a beginner build! and 3) we have wincons, several wincons, and if we do not draw into any of them, this deck is basically worth the same as a wet roll of toilet paper (only 600 times more expensive!).

Overall, this is a fun fun deck to play and is a fun take on the Jeskai Superfriends build currently floating around. Until next time, may all your draws be God-like and may all your spells hit the board!

I would love to play this deck but the problem is I am a poor teenager until I get a job.
