Blakeizen's Amass Control

When there's no more room in hell the dead will walk the earth.

Hello Spellslingers! Blakeizen with the weekly Saturday morning build for you. Check out the gameplay on YouTube- Blakeizen's Amass Control. The video showcases the deck in action, with some gameplay commentary for those interested in picking it up! I managed to get to Diamond 3 before the season ended, this go-around I'm definitely going for Mythic! Here's hoping we accomplish that! I've never tried to grind up anything before so it's been a learning experience for me. Now that the season reset, I just took today's deck straight to ranked and have been having a good run versus a lot of meta decks. Introducing: Amass Control.

{{Dreadhorde Invasion}}{{Widespread Brutality}}{{Enter the God-Eternals}}

I have been playing with [[Dreadhorde Invasion]] for a while, but there didn't seem to be many reasons to actually play the card. I also tried exploring the best way to use [[Widespread Brutality]]. You don't necessarily have to go down the Amass path (I've got a secret for later with that) but [[Dreadhorde Invasion]] really ups the consistency of [[Widespread Brutality]]. If you drop Invasion on turn 2, Brutality can nuke the board for 4 on turn 4 with no other amass effects. If your Army ever gets removed, it can still hit the board for 3 on turn 4 almost guaranteed. Don't forget that once your Army is up to 6 it will be given Lifelink when attacking, and sometimes you can just use Brutality to get to that point in a pinch.

[[Enter the God-Eternals]] is just a great control card. Smack a creature for 4, gain 4 life, mill 4 cards from either player. This card is fairly common in Esper control, but us Grixis players want more bang for our buck, so we use it to further our Army win-con even more. A very important play with this card is to hit your own Army on an otherwise empty board. The Army token will not die, but instead grow due to the Amass 4 component. Because of that, if your army is at least a 2/2 without summoning sickness, you can use it to swing for 6 Lifelinked, sometimes catching a pesky Walker by surprise, or just saving the game vs RDW.

[[Narset, Parter of Veils]] is one of the best cards in Standard in my opinion. If you have a reason to play her, you probably should. In our deck, she hits everything, save for our 3 of [[Gleaming Overseer]]. The card is wildly powerful in a variety of situations and just gives you more and more card advantage. A fun play I've run into is to [[Callous Dismissal]] our own [[Narset, Parter of Veils]] just to get more value. Also it starts / adds to an Army. [[Callous Dismissal]] is the weakest card in our deck however, and I have been tossing around the idea of playing an [[Augur of Bolas]] or [[Anticipate]] in it's place. If you're running into a LOT of RDW or hyper aggro like White Weenies, I would cut it and [[Angrath, the Flame-Chained]] for +1 [[Gleaming Overseer]] and +1 [[Enter the God-Eternals]]. We have made these changes versus the current meta, reflected in the list above.

We have a variety of ways to deal with threats outside of wiping the board. Our 2 of [[The Elderspell]] turns the Jeskai Superfriends matchup on it's head (Braaaaiiinnnns) and will just 1 for 1 with most other decks. There's not very many decks out there that don't even play a single Planeswalker. We all know how strong [[Thought Erasure]] is as well. [[Vraska's Contempt]], [[Tyrant's Scorn]], and [[Ionize]] are all fairly flexible, and we also have the [[Cry of the Carnarium]] as backup for when opponent plays [[History of Benalia]] three turns in a row. Ugh.

I'll be streaming this tonight at 9:30 PM Est, and try to post a YouTube video after with a walkthrough and some of the highlights! This is something I've never done before so come hang out with me!

Since this is getting a bit of views I wanted to stress the importance of Bedeck // Bedazzle. You do well vs other control decks, but Azcanta being flipped on the other side is kind of game over since they're just going to value you out. Bedazzle is there to blow that up, but is also a flex spot removal with the Bedeck half. Very versatile.
Made some updates to fight other decks in the long, drawn out matches. Still needs some sideboard love.
-1 Swamp, -1 Angrath, +1 Gleaming Overseer and +1 Ugin, the Ineffable. I made these changes are a lot more playtesting. We ran into a fair amount of heavy control, and while the matchup is fair this change should give us more staying power. Possibly add another Ugin to the Sideboard.
