Description

I totally love control decks in magic, expecially in this meta and my favourite colors are definitely blue and white. That’s why I’m so exited for the release of this set. Azorius will rise again. Usually I prefer to play UW Control primarly for [[Teferi, Hero of Dominaria]]. He’s the best card of the format so i think it’s a must in every control deck but with Allegiance I want to try something different and I’ve been captured by a card:

{{Verity Circle}}

Verity Circle is surely not the strongest card of this set but in my opinion it’s a really powerful one in a prison build and in this meta Conclave Tribunal, March of the Multitudes, Venerated Loxodon, Llanowar Elves and Emmara will not be so glad to see this card on the board.

So let’s take a look at our deck.

Our win condition here is

{{Psychic Corrosion}}

Yes we are a mill prison deck. This card lets us mill our opponents simply drawing cards and that’s why i want to use this one in combo with Verity Circle. The plan is to set both cards on the board and trigger Verity Circle with effects that tap our opponent’s creatures.

[[Merfolk Trickster]] and [[sleep]] are the way to do this and with Sleep we can gain some turn too. [[Watertrap Weaver]] can be a good alternative to the trickster but the 3 mana cost is not so tempting.

{{Depose}}

Depose//Deploy is the other card in our build that tap our opponent’s creatures. The real power of this card is the hybrid mana. We can still do something with it even if we don’t have blue or white and it can also help us find mana thanks to the card draw.

Ok, we have a good combination to trigger the ability of Verity Circle but we are not so confortable against aggro expecially if we don’t draw fast our key cards. Here comes into play [[Wall of Lost Thoughts]].

A 2 mana 0/4 ‘’wall’’ with the ability to put 4 cards of our opponent’s deck in his graveyard. That’s really sweet. Against aggro we want a bit of sustain too so I decided at the beginning for [[Absorb]] but i want to have more draw possibility so [[Revitalize]] is my choise here. Now it’s the counter time cause we want to say something against other control decks too. Absord and Sinister Sabotage are not bad but Allegiance gives us a bomb. That bomb has a name:

{{Thought Collapse}}

This card is amazing. It’s basically a ‘’Cancel’’ for mill deck. 4x. No way to not use it.

Our deck is theoretically a prison not a mill so we need some ‘’cages’’. [[Lawmage’s binding]] is an aura with flash really worth for 3 mana. [[Sky Tether]] is so sweet for 1 mana but I want something against the planeswalkers expecially for Vivien and Vraska that can easily break our plans so [[Ixalan binding]] can be a good solution. The 4 mana and the double white are a bit problematic for this deck but i want to give it a try.

Let’s talk about the mana base. Here the things are really simple. Finally we can use the Azorius shock lands so 4x [[Hallowed Fountain]] and 4x [[glacial Fortress]] are a must. I want to try to use a copy of [[Field Of Ruin]]. It’s not so heavy for our mana base and in my opinion it’s really strong against all the Legion’s Landing and Search for Azcanta that are haunting the Standard format.

THE SIDEBOARD

The sideboard is basically a plan B. If game 1 is a disaster we can rotate to a full control strategy. [[Teferi, Hero Of Dominaria]] is our win condition now. Teferi isn't ‘’special’’ in this build but as we said before he is the strongest card in the format and we can use the side to make a build for him.

We want to draw him and take some cards advantage so I think some additional draws are good here. [[Chemister’s Insight]] is one of my preferred spell. Draw 2 plus jump-start is really insane in mirror games. We need to protect him and a 2+2 of [[Negate]] and [[Quench]] are enaugh.

{{Quench}}

Quench is a sort of [[Mana Leak]] and it can have a way to be played in constructed. [[Syncopate]] is better, can exile and scale much better in late game but i want to test how this new counter can impact the meta.

[[Clear The Mind]] is really sweet for us in control vs control games cause we can shuffle our used spells in the deck and continue our strategy with full power. [[Cleansing Nova]] and [[Settle The Wreckage]] are our aoe removals. [[Opt]] can be a good card too in this deck but I'm not sure we want other draw sources.

Ive tried this deck but i have modified it for myself mostly due to lack of card draw/mass removal or counters https://aetherhub.com/Deck/Public/57625
