The plan is to ultimate Nicol Bolas, Dragon-God with the help of The Elderspell
, guildgate synnergies and other planeswalkers.
Teferi, Time Raveler
, Narset, Parter of Veils
and Tamiyo, Collector of Tales
serve as utility planeswalkers. Teferi's is really good turning your disruption and board wipes into instants, as well as bouncing something and drawing a card. His passive is also really good against control players and also serves as insurance that you will get to combo off during your turn. Narset can help find important cards as well as make sure the opponent doesnt outdraw you. Tamiyo can dig for needed cards or get back anything from the graveyard. Her passive is also really handy.
Ugin, the Ineffable
and Liliana, Dreadhorde General
serve as alternate wincons. Ugin generates constant blockers and card draw as well as the ability to snipe something annoying on the board. Liliana can also make bodies and if left unchecked will end games on her own.
Thought Erasure
helps with early disruption and removing annoying pieces from their hand. Gates Ablaze
, Cry of the Carnarium
and Cleansing Nova
are your board wipes, with Nova also being able to hit pesky artifacts and enchantments. The Elderspell can ruin planeswalker heavy decks as well as feed your Nicol Bolas, Dragon-God. Remeber that you can +1 Teferi, Time Raveler and cast The Elderspell during their turn after they drop their planeswalkers.
Guild Summit
is your draw engine and damn is it powerful with so many gates. Oath of Kaya
can remove something as well as deter opponents from attacking your planeswalkers. Oath of Teferi
helps accelerate your various planeswalkers and can blink either a gate with Guild Summit on the field for card draw, Oath of Kaya for the lifesteal etb, refresh a planeswalker with low loyalty or even a Plaza of Harmony
for 3 life.
Theres a decent amount of lifegain in the deck from Oath of Kaya, Plaza of Harmony and Interplanar Beacon
. This and Guild Summit help the fact that most of your lands come in tapped.
Mastermind's Acquisition
has been a solid contender in the main, especially in best of one matches. It can fetch any needed piece from your deck or a ultility card in the sideboard.
Sideboard is a bunch of cards for certain matchups. I find you can tailor it for whatever decks you keep running into or decks you purely dislike. There's also some additional copies of some maindeck cards there as well, in case all the copies in the maindeck get exiled by various ways. Sideboard is not set in stone and feel free to adjust to your preference.
Overall I imagine this deck isn't perfectly optimised. I'm not running Teferi, Hero of Dominaria
mainly because he's bloody played enough. This is primarily a deck based around my two favourite things in this standard, Bolas and Gates. Long live the king.
