Good evening Magic Mavericks! War of the Spark has been out almost a week now and I have been having so much fun playing with these new toys. Just a great set, everyone said it would be OP and some of it is but I have not really walked away from many games feeling cheated (by a turn three kill) or unclean (I dole out a turn three kill, not my style). I am a brewer (literally, I make beer in my spare time!) and I love to experiment with new combinations of cards. Some of these experiments work (Mono U Evolved) and some of them not so much (like throwing Teferi in a U/W aggro deck). Mono White is one of my favorite archetypes, always has been ever since I began playing the game back in 1996. This particular deck was inspired by Merchant's Mono White build with [[Gideon Blackblade]]. I took it one step further though and added [[Dovin, Hand of Control]]. All I gotta say is: "Zang!" (Wayne's World reference).

Deck time: [[Healer's Hawk]] for our flying one drop, [[Skymarcher Aspirant]] for our Ascend flyer, [[Dauntless Bodyguard]] for our protection, [[Law-Rune Enforcer]] to lock down our opponent's big guns, and  [[Hunted Witness]] for our two for one. [[Adanto Vanguard]] gives us a big attacker early on with the small price of 4 life to make him indestructable, [[Benalish Marshal]] makes out creatures beefier, and [[Venerated Loxodon]] gives us the same effect along with a nice 4/4 body as early as turn 3. [[Unbreakable Formation]] is a great tool against removal and it can boost our bodies as well. Now, this deck has demonstrated some very interesting synergy between [[Gideon Blackblade]] and [[Dovin, Hand of Control]]. First off, Gideon is beast: 4/4 for three with two rather powerful planeswalker abilities? Sign. Me. Up! Dovin also gives us some added insurance against burn and control decks and his ability to lock down our opponent's big guns come very handy with the Enforcer. The sideboard needs some work but [[Cleansing Nova]] is in there against mainly enchantments and artifact builds, [[Conclave Tribunal]] to combat aggressive stompy builds, [[Gideon's Triumph]] also is in there for more aggressive builds. [[Revitalize]] for life gain and card draw while [[Seal Away]] is likewise in against aggro builds.

ADVANTAGES: 1) super fast deck, this deck can get very wide very fast 2) it has elements to combat quite a few decks that are dominating the meta right now and 3) in paper form, this is actually a fairly cheap deck to craft.

DISADVANTAGES: 1) we are only running two copies of our planeswalkers; play around with this, while their presence is not essential to victory, it certainly helps a lot 2) despite running the Formations, this deck remains susceptible to mass removal and 3) we are not running the Tribunals in the maindeck, so we do not have access to removal ourselves. That said, Dovin and the Enforcers do a good job of locking down opponent's big guns.

Overall, this is a rather fun deck to play around with. The synergy between Gideon and Dovin works well to our advantage and even without their presence, this deck still hums. Until next time, may all your draws be God-like and may all your spells touch the board. See you next time, thanks for the likes and follows and exports!
