On this special episode of the Mythic Rare Podcast, I was lucky enough to be joined by Mythic Championship VII contender Alexander Steyer. Perhaps better known as Sorquixe, Alex is a #TeamAether member and big friend of the community. We were all rooting for him during the tournament, and although he did not go on a long run, it is a huge accomplishment to make it that far!

Hailing from Germany, Sorquixe qualified for Mythic Championship VII via the Mythic Championship Qualifier Weekend. This tournament had over 1000 people in it, and only the top 16 finishers qualify for the MC. Playing an Oko food deck, Sorquixe went on an unbelievable run to post a fantastic finish.

For the Mythic Championship, Sorquixe decided to submit a Jeskai Fires list running the Fae of Wishes package. For the reasoning behind this deck choice, you will have to listen to the interview above! Unfortunately, Sorquixe went 0-4 in the tourney, but also went up against some very stiff competition, including MPL players Andrea Mangucci and Martin Juza. In the interview, we talk about what its like to go up against big name opponents like these, and how the experience interacting with all the pros was in general. We also recap all his matchups, and get some advice on how to beat the breakout decks from the tournament such as Simic Flash. This was a great interview, and every chance you get to listen to the top tier players is a chance to become a better player yourself!

We recently saw Miguel Da Cruz Simoes go from 0-4 in his first Mythic Championship to a top 8 in his second, and players like Chris Kvartek have burst onto the scene this year from absolutely nowhere. The Mythic Championship Qualifier Weekend is an opportunity to really make a name for yourself as a competitive magic player, and hearing success stories from that process is highly motivating to hop on that ladder and start grinding!
